With primates susceptible to almost all human diseases and infections, its vital to ensure that they are protected and vaccinated where possible. Something as simple as the common cold and flu can be life threatening to a primate and especially for those who have already suffered so much abuse and neglect in their lives.
With this in mind the charity was very pleased to once again provide funding to cover the costs of flu vaccinations for all of the primates at Monkey World. The staff at the park have an excellent operant conditioning program and the primates willingly present their shoulders for their vaccination through the mesh, avoiding the need for risky anaesthesia. We are looking forward to expanding our vaccination program to other rescue centres and sanctuary’s in 2021 so that more primates in captivity can benefit from this very worthwhile vaccination.
